The
League Director handles all scheduling.
The ASL Board will handle all rules and league issues.
The Recreation Department will not get involved in the schedule
unless it is to accommodate their programs. The Rec Department will only get
involved if there is a serious incident during a game or at the field.
LEAGUE RULES
A. All games will be played at Rec Park.
B. A
team shall consist of a minimum of 10 players including 3 female or non-male
players, and up to a maximum of 14 players (includes 4 extra hitters). 3 female or non-male players are required to play in the field at all times.
C. Coed Factor – Each team must have a
minimum of 3 female or non-male athletes playing at all times.
There are to be no special arrangements between teams. Substituting a minority sex player with a
non-minority player can only be done when a team has more than 3 of the
minority sex players in the batting order.
If a team only has 1 female or non-male player at game time the game
will be a forfeit.
D. Games may be played with 9 players. If a team cannot field 9 players including 2
female or non-male players the game will be declared a
forfeit by the umpire. If playing with 9
players, the shorthanded team must take an out when
the vacant lineup spot is due up.
E. Teams may borrow a player to reach the
minimum to field a team but NO more. Teams may only borrow a maximum of 1
female/non male and 1 male player. There will
be a 2 game Maximum. If a team needs more this will be at the discretion of
the league director and the board.
You can not borrow players to have
extra hitters. Teams may not borrow players if you have an eligible player on
the bench - Your own player needs to play.
F. If
playing shorthanded and a 10th player arrives after the game begins,
they may be inserted into the #10 spot in the batting order. An EH cannot be added to the line-up once the
game begins.
G. *On the field and ready to play* - Players must be
on the playing field and ready to play at the designated game times. If teams are not ready to play at their
designated game times the umpire will call a forfeit on one or both teams.
H. Female/Non-Male
players can be placed in any spot in the batting order.
I. There will be no special arrangements between
teams on playing / forfeit times. Umpires’ decisions will be final.
J. There is no bunting, base stealing, leading,
or advancement on a wild pitch. Metal
spikes are not allowed.
K.
Bases will be the breakaway style.
The league will provide bases including a double safety base. Base runners cannot leave the base until the
pitched ball either crosses the plate or is hit by the batter.
L. Slow-pitch regulations will be in effect with
a minimum arc of 6’ and a maximum of 12’.
M.
A legal pitch which hits the plate will be called a strike by the umpire.
N. EH–
The use of 1-4 extra (11th, 12th, 13th and/or 14th)
players is optional and must be decided upon prior to the start of the
game. The EH’s may play anywhere in the
field defensively without the loss of the EH.
Their position in the batting order cannot be changed. The EH’s cannot be dropped from the line-up.
Coed factor must remain.
O. Courtesy runner – A courtesy runner is
permitted where a male player may run for a male and a non-male player may run
for a non-male player. The courtesy runner shall be the last batter/out in the
previous inning, provided that that runner is not due up in the current inning. Due up includes
being in line to bat in the next 4 batters.
If the last batter/out in the previous inning is due up or is already on
base, then the 2nd to last out in the previous inning may be used. In no circumstance should a player that is
due up be used as a runner. If a runner is required and no outs have been made
or it is the beginning of the game, then it will be the last batter in the line up. No player that requires a runner due to injury
will be a runner at any point in the game. It will roll to the next available
out.
P. Re-entry – players may be taken out of the
game and re-entered one time during the game.
Players re-entering must return to their
original spot in the batting order. The
starting player and the player who substitutes for them,
may never be in the game at the same time.
Q. INJURIES:
In case of an injury during a game, a team may use what would ordinarily
be an illegal substitute (i.e. a player who has already substituted and come
out of the game). If no substitutes are
available, the injured player's spot in the lineup will be skipped and will not
result in an out. However, if the
injured player is the team’s 3rd female or non-male player, the team must play
with 9 players and remove all extra hitters (EHs) from the lineup from that
point forward.
R. If a male is walked on 4 pitches (no strike
thrown) and a female or non-male is on deck, the female/non-male may choose to
take an automatic walk or take their turn at bat. This choice must be made before entering the
batter’s box.
S. 12 Run Rule
-- At any point AFTER 5 innings (4 ½ if the home team is leading) when one team
is leading by 12 runs or more, the game is over AT THAT POINT. After five full innings the home team does
not bat.
T. Homeruns -
There is no limit on homeruns in the regular season or playoffs. Any player who hits a home
run needs only to touch first base and then may proceed back to his/her
bench area. Any other players already on
base may also proceed to their bench without touching the other bases.
U. Sliding is
legal. As much effort as possible should
be made to avoid contact with any fielders. If a base runner makes
contact with a fielder without sliding, they may be called out by the
umpire.
V. The
Use of any type of enhanced/high-performance bats (including double wall,
triple wall, titanium, and composite) is not allowed by a male player in this league . The penalty
is ejection of the player and forfeit of the game.
W. Non Male-Female players will be allowed to use any bat with
an ASA 2000/2004/2013 stamp
or a USA softball stamp. These bats will be marked with red tape
and initialed. Any player other than non male or females that use these
bats will result in an out.All
bats will say USA softball. The first offense will be an out! Second offense
the player will be ejected.
Y. All
Bats must have an Andover Recreation Approved Bat Sticker. Teams/ Players must
set up a time with the league director or a designee at the field to have your
bats sticker.
Z. If
any player is found to be using a non-stickered bat that bat will be removed
from the game and any runs will be nullified.
